Two Short’s beers hit the shelves this week for the first time!
Liberator~ To pay homage to the original hop headed hero of Short’s Brewing Company, this beer was made as a 30th birthday gift for Joe Short. Our first official double IPA, this beast employs a sizable malt bill, but it’s the ridiculous amounts of hops added to the boil every 4 minutes for 120min that showcases this beer. A fruity, floral, piney intensity of hops penetrates through the caramelized malt profile. The finish is bitter with a punch of fresh citrus compliments of fresh lemon and orange zest added after fermentation. A true IPA drinker’s paradise.
ABV: 7.5% IBU’s: 300+ (basically, it’s immeasurable because it maxed the IBU scale out at 125)
A nice medium bodied IPA with a wonderful bright clarity and pleasing bronze hue. The aroma is a unique fusion of citrus fruit combined w/ subtle pine qualities. The distinct characteristics of the guava nectar are impossible to miss as the sharp sweetness and slightly tart flavors snap across the palate. Comparable attributes of tangerine, nectarine, and even some faint honey flavors are detectable. The finish quickly turns to a bitterness expected of an IPA, that resonates and turns dry during prolonged tastings.
Freedom of the body, freedom of the mind, this bitter nectar does it all ABV 6.9%
Cheers!

Pub Renovations are really moving along well. With the demolition phase completed, most of the framing of new walls went up quickly. We are very fortunate for our team of talented, hardworking crew, from right here in northern Michigan, who have been working virtually around the clock. Check out some of our photos!
And remember you can watch the renovations live here.
Did anyone catch our very own Scott Newman-Bale on Fox Business News? No worries, watch it here!

Short’s expands to keep up with sales demand
By Bill O’Brien
[email protected]TRAVERSE CITY — These are busy days for Joe Short.
The Antrim County businessman has become the face of northern Michigan’s craft beer industry and is expanding Short’s Brewing Co.’s brewing and bottling plant in Elk Rapids, as well as renovating its original tavern and microbrewery in downtown Bellaire.
He’s trying to keep up with Short’s Brewing’s 30 to 40 percent annual sales growth for its 30-some varieties of hand-crafted beer, and to accommodate more patrons at its popular pub.
This beer was our first ever collaboration effort w/ another brewery. Brewed together w/ a brewery based in Chicago IL, called 1/2 Acre Brewing Company, this beer was just as much fun to make as it is to drink. The collaboration concept was first conceived when Joe visited the 1/2 Acre Brewery back in May, and quickly realized that the two company’s had a lot in common. The first version was brewed this past June, in Chicago at 1/2 Acre’s brewing facility, and packaged in 22oz bottles. This past October, the 1/2 Acre crew came up to N. Michigan, and brewed a batch at our facility in Elk Rapids. We decided at that time to package it in 12oz 6-packs.
