Bellaire, MI – Short’s Brewing Company was awarded a gold medal in the category of experimental beer at this year’s Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado. Short’s won gold with “Key Lime Pie” – a desert beer that is brewed with real lime, milk, graham cracker, and marshmallow crème.
The Great American Beer Festival is the world’s largest commercial beer competition, and medals won at this event are widely regarded as the highest recognition in American brewing. The 2010 competition featured 516 breweries from around the United States, with over 3,523 beers submitted for judging. Short’s has previously won two Silver medals at the Great American Beer Festival, one in 2006 for its Autumn Ale (ESB) and one in 2009 for Bloody Beer (Experimental Beer).
It was not just the Key Lime Pie that was drawing attention to Shorts. Many beer critics, including Charlie Papazian and Ray Daniels, two of the leading figures in the United States brewing industry, referenced Shorts Brewing to be one of the most popular booths.
Short’s opened for business in 2004. Its pub, located in Bellaire, always features twenty beers on tap and a gourmet deli menu. In 2009, to meet increasing demand for the company’s product, Short’s opened a larger brewing and bottling facility in Elk Rapids. Owner Joe Short is proud to have established this highly-regarded brewery in Northern Michigan, and remains thankful to the community for supporting his business.
